  • Driving a Just Industrial Transition: Role of MDBs and Solar Rush in Pakistan’s Textile Sector (Launch of ADS’ Two Research Studies & Multi-Stakeholder Policy Dialogue)

ADS presented two studies highlighting pathways for industrial decarbonization in Pakistan. The first critically examines the World Bank’s Country Partnership Framework and the Asian Development Bank’s Country Partnership Strategy, assessing their commitments on renewables, energy efficiency, resilience, clean air, and just transition, while identifying gaps in metrics, institutional capacity, and reform sequencing.

The second study evaluates the feasibility of shifting textiles to off-grid and captive solar PV under the CTBCM regime. Based on data from 80 textiles in Faisalabad and Multan, it combines technical, financial, and regulatory analysis to provide actionable recommendations for regulators, industry, and development finance institutions. Together, the studies offer insights to align international finance, domestic policy, and industrial practice, supporting a just, inclusive, and sustainable energy transition in Pakistan’s textile sector.

  • Studies Launch: Solar Mapping of the Textile Sector, Solarization Trends in the Leather Industry, and Solarization Trends from the Perspective of Solar Companies

ADS convened a diverse group of experts and industry stakeholders to discuss Pakistan’s journey toward a just and equitable energy transition in Faisalabad.
During the event, we launched three major studies that map solar adoption in the textile sector, assess the integration of off-grid solar into the grid, and analyse decarbonization potential in the leather and textile sectors.
The discussion reinforced that global buyer pressure—not motivation alone—is shaping the pace of renewable energy adoption across Pakistan’s industrial sectors.

  • Training: Beyond CO₂: Emission Calculations, Methane Monitoring & Real Sequestration Metrics

On October 2, 2025, Alternate Development Services (ADS) held the workshop “Beyond CO₂: Emission Calculations, Methane Monitoring & Real Sequestration Metrics” in Peshawar.
The event brought together experts, practitioners, and participants from academia, government, NGOs, and industry to strengthen technical capacity in GHG emission calculations, methane monitoring, and sequestration metrics.

This training aimed to consolidate practical knowledge and technical capacity around accurate emission calculation and sequestration impact assessments, with a goal of advancing actionable climate solutions.

  • ADS’ Midterm Report – Jan to Jun 2025

At ADS, we’ve made significant strides in driving climate action and sustainability through a series of impactful initiatives over the last six months. From hosting seminars on the energy landscape of industries to provincial consultations on NDCs 3.0 and climate action summits, we’ve fostered dialogue and collaboration among key stakeholders. Our research and media campaigns, under the AREC-Pak, have further amplified awareness and insights on critical issues. Please see the complete report attached below for a detailed overview of our achievements and ongoing research and advocacy initiatives.

  • One-day Technical Training Workshop on Emission Calculation, GHG Accounting and LCA in Textile Sector

A comprehensive full-day technical training workshop was successfully organized for 34 participants from diverse sectors including Academia, Textile, Pharmaceutical, and Energy industries. Organized by Alternate Development Services (ADS), the workshop aimed to build both foundational and practical knowledge in corporate greenhouse gas (GHG) emission accounting, life cycle assessment techniques, and compliance with evolving international regulations. The training was structured to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical implementation in the corresponding industries. Starting with the evolution of GHG accounting standards, the session covered key frameworks like the GHG Protocol, ISO standards, and the Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi). Sector-specific focus was placed on the textile industry’s emissions footprint, with insights into Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions calculations, boundary setting approaches, and life cycle methodologies tailored for textile manufacturing, dyeing, and supply chain activities.

  • Textiles at the Crossroads: Navigating CBAM, CTBCM & Tariff Shifts | Consultation – Faisalabad

Pakistan’s textile sector, accounting for significant percentage of national exports and employing millions, stands at a critical stage amidst global shifts in climate linked trade policies and domestic energy market reforms. With the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) threatening export competitiveness through carbon-related tariffs, and Pakistan’s move toward a Competitive Trading and Bilateral Contract Market (CTBCM) introducing new dynamics in industrial power procurement, textile producers face growing pressure to adapt. Coupled with the shift in tariff regime, the industry must swiftly align with low-carbon benchmarks to retain market access. These initiatives offer potential for cleaner and possibly cheaper power, emission reduction, decarbonization and increase in trade, but many textile units are not yet ready for the technical and regulatory challenges it brings. In this context, Alternate Development Services (ADS), in collaboration with National Textile University (NTU), convened a focused consultation session in Faisalabad titled “Textile at the Crossroads: Navigating CBAM, CTBCM, and Tariff Shifts” to facilitate informed dialogue and actionable strategies for the sector’s sustainable transformation.
