STRM is a growing international coalition of researchers, sustainability practitioners, advocacy organizations, industry partners, and development finance institutions working to institutionalize the principle that international brands bear shared responsibility, both moral and financial, for decarbonizing the supply chains from which they profit.

Pakistan’s textile and sports apparel industries face mounting pressure from global climate mandates and rising energy costs, often leaving manufacturers to bear the burden of green upgrades alone. A shared responsibility model offers the solution, where global brands co-invest in renewable energy, offer long-term purchase agreements, and provide technical support to help suppliers decarbonize. Backed by initiatives like the Future Supplier Initiative and partnerships with international bodies, this approach is essential for Pakistan to retain GSP+ status, prepare for the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, and secure the industry’s long-term competitiveness.
