Welcome to the Alternate and Renewable Energy Campaign in Pakistan (AREC-P), an initiative by Alternate Development Services to promote the use of sustainable energy sources and create a cleaner, greener future for Pakistan. Pakistan is blessed with abundant natural resources such as sunlight, wind, biomass, and hydro. However, the country’s heavy reliance on fossil fuels not only harms the environment but also makes it vulnerable to fluctuations in the global oil market.

Pakistan is facing an energy crisis due to its reliance on fossil fuels. This has led to a severe shortage of electricity, resulting in power outages and load shedding across the country. Moreover, the use of fossil fuels has a negative impact on the environment, contributing to air pollution and climate change.

To address these challenges, our campaign aims to raise awareness about the benefits of renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, biomass, and hydropower. By encouraging the adoption of renewable energy, we can reduce Pakistan’s dependence on fossil fuels and create a reliable and sustainable energy solution. These sources are abundant in Pakistan and can provide a reliable and sustainable solution to the energy crisis. Through this campaign, we aim to:

• Create Awareness Among the Public: We aim to create awareness among the general public about the benefits of renewable energy sources. We will educate the public about how renewable energy sources can help to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable development.
• Encourage Adoption of Renewable Energy Technologies: We will encourage the adoption of renewable energy technologies in households, industries, and the agriculture sector. We will provide guidance on how to install and maintain these technologies and demonstrate their benefits.
• Advocate for Policies That Support the Growth of the Renewable Energy Sector: We will work to promote policies that support the growth of the renewable energy sector. This will include advocating for tax incentives, subsidies, and regulatory frameworks that make it easier for individuals and organizations to adopt renewable energy technologies.
• Foster Partnerships Between Stakeholders in the Renewable Energy Sector: We believe that partnerships between stakeholders in the renewable energy sector can help to promote the adoption of renewable energy technologies. We will work to build partnerships between NGOs, government organizations, and private companies to promote the use of renewable energy sources.
• Promote Job Creation: We believe that the adoption of renewable energy technologies can create new job opportunities. We will work to promote job creation in the renewable energy sector, particularly for individuals who may have been impacted by the country’s energy crisis.

Welcome to the Green Corporate Coalition, an initiative by The Alternate. Our mission is to promote industrial decarbonization and accelerate the growth of renewable energy in Pakistan’s industrial energy mix, specifically in the textile, sports, and other export-oriented industries. We are an institute of allied organizations and individuals committed to fostering the implementation of the goals set within the Alternate and Renewable Energy Policy 2019, the Paris Climate Agreement 2016, and the updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) of Pakistan.

Through our coalition, we aim to drive the transition towards a low-carbon economy by promoting the use of renewable energy sources, such as solar, wind, and hydropower, and implementing energy-efficient practices in the textile and sports industries and certain other massively energy consuming and carbon emitting industries. We believe that by working together, we can make a significant impact in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, promoting sustainability, and creating a cleaner, greener future for Pakistan.

Our coalition is composed of a diverse group of stakeholders, including businesses, policymakers, and environmental organizations, all working towards a common goal. Our campaign aims to encourage commercial banks to adopt sustainable finance practices by redirecting their credit lines and investment portfolios towards renewable and clean energy projects. By doing so, we can support the transition to a more sustainable, low-carbon, environment friendly economy, and development ventures.

Green financing is important because it aligns economic growth with environmental protection. It involves investments and financing activities that reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable development. As the world continues to face climate challenges such as global warming, rising sea levels, extreme weather, heat waves, cyclones, hurricanes and heavy rains, biodiversity loss, massive flooding, environmental degradation, atmospheric poison, and air pollution. Green financing provides a means of addressing these issues while also promoting economic growth.

Our campaign encourages commercial banks investment entities, and development finance institutes to switch their credit lines and investment portfolios toward renewable and clean energy projects. This will help to reduce their carbon footprints along with supporting the growth of the renewable energy sector. By becoming climate-change conscious, environmentally responsible, minimizing carbon emissions, and redirecting their funds towards sustainable investments, commercial banks and DFIs can contribute to the transition towards a more sustainable economy of the country.

Commercial banks, MFIs, and DFIs can participate in our campaign by committing to redirect a portion of their credit lines and investment portfolios towards renewable and clean energy projects. They can also adopt sustainable financing practices, such as considering the environmental impact of their investments, disclosing their carbon footprints, and promoting sustainable finance products to their clients.
